There is just something I just love about steak covered in fresh blue cheese. Topping steak with blue cheese adds another level to the flavor of the steak. It’s bold, it’s creamy and it’s tangy all in one bite.
The bold flavor of blue cheese combined with tender steak makes a delicious appetizer. But once you drizzle the blue cheese crusted steak with the balsamic glaze and fresh basil, you will have an amazing appetizer!
Like your taste buds are going to explode type of appetizer!
Steak appetizer in a few easy steps.
- First, you are going to make the balsamic glaze by boiling down the balsamic vinegar with brown sugar.
- After seasoning your steaks, you are going to cook them to your favorite temperature.
- Allow the steaks to rest a few minutes before slicing.
- Assemble the steak and blue cheese bites on a baking pan.
- Pop in the oven to broil for just one minute, on until the blue cheese is slightly melted.
- Remove from the oven and drizzle with the glorious balsamic glaze and top with fresh chopped basil.
- Serve immediately and enjoy!
The Schär Entertainment Crackers were the perfect choice for this steak appetizer. Not only do they have a rich and buttery flavor, but they are strong enough to hold the steak.
Now don’t get me wrong when I say they were strong, I do not mean hard. These crackers are not your typical gluten-free cracker. I promise they are not hard as a rock.
Seriously, when you bite into one of these crackers, it will bring you back to the days before eating gluten-free. Yes, these gluten-free Schär Entertainment Crackers are that good!
They have an amazing texture and flavor that is just the way a cracker should be. They are the perfect spreadable base for cheeses, dips or even chicken salad (one of my personal favorites).
As for these blue cheese steak bites, they are really everything you could want in an appetizer bite. Buttery, savory, tangy all atop the tender juicy steak. The perfect savory gluten-free appetizer in just one bite.

Steak and Blue Cheese Bites {Gluten-Free}
Ingredients
- 1 lb steak (I used sirloin)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 1 tablespoon chopped garlic
- 1 tablespoon onion powder
- salt
- pepper
- 1/2 cup balsamic vinegar
- 3 tablespoons brown sugar , honey or pure maple syrup
- gluten-free blue cheese (I used crumbled. For a list of gluten-free blue cheese brands please see the recipe notes.)
- fresh basil
- 1 package Schar Entertainment Crackers
Instructions
- In a small pan add the balsamic vinegar and brown sugar and stir to combine.
- Once the mixture begins to boil, reduce the heat to medium-low heat and allow to simmer until reduced by half and is a thick consistency. You want it to be thick and sticky, like syrup. This should take 10-20 minutes. Please watch your glaze because all stovetops are different.
- Remove from the heat and set aside to cool.
- Generously salt and pepper your streaks.
- Add olive oil and garlic to a large pan over high heat.
- Sautee garlic for 1-2 minutes.
- Add the steaks to the pan. I like my steaks medium rare, so I cook my steaks for 4 minutes on each side. This time will differ depending on how thick your steaks are.
- After 4 minutes turn your steaks over and add the butter and onion powder to the pan.
- Spoon butter, onion powder and garlic sauce over steak as it cooks for 4 more minutes.
- Remove steak from the pan and allow it to rest before cutting.
- Slice the steak into cut into about 2-inch pieces.
- Place the crackers on to a baking sheet.
- Place the steak on top of the crackers and top with the crumbled blue cheese.
- Finely chop the fresh basil.
- Broil the steak and blue cheese topped crackers for 1 minute to slightly melt the blue cheese. Please watch your oven because all ovens are different.
- Remove the crackers from the oven and drizzle with the balsamic glaze with a spoon. Topp with the fresh chopped basil.
- Serve immediately.
- Enjoy!
