These gluten-free pigs in a blanket take me right back to childhood parties, with just a few tweaks to fit how I eat today. They’ve got that same flaky, golden pastry and savory little sausage inside, only now they’re made with gluten-free puff pastry. I love how fast they come together, and honestly, they’re always the first thing gone whenever I bring them to a party or put them out for game day.

These gluten-free pigs in a blanket have become my go-to when I need something quick, fun, and guaranteed to please a crowd. I’ve used homemade gluten-free puff pastry or my favorite store-bought, Sweet Loren’s, and they always bake up golden, flaky, and buttery. No one ever guesses they’re gluten-free. I can have them prepped in about 20 minutes, and they’re perfect for everything from game day snacks to holiday appetizers. Kids absolutely love them, which makes them an easy win for family parties or after-school treats.

Step-by-step photos can be seen below the recipe card.

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet gluten-free puff pastry, homemade or store-bought
  • 14 oz little smokies , (1 package) dried and gluten-free
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp water
  • 2 tbsp everything bagel seasoning

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a large cookie sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water until the egg is well blended.
  • Roll the puff pastry to a 9×12 sheet. Cut into 36 pieces, by cutting 4 even sections along the long side of the pastry and 9 – 1” sections along the short side of the pastry. They don’t have to be perfect.
  • Take one strip and roll it around a smokie. Pinch the pastry to seal. Place the wrapped smokie on the prepared baking sheet seam side down. If the pastry isn’t sticking together, you can brush a dab of water or egg wash at the end of the roll, then pinch it together to help it seal.
  • Brush the tops with the egg wash and sprinkle everything bagel seasoning on top.
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown. Serve warm.

Notes

  • A 14-ounce package of Lit’l Smokies may include a few more than you need for 36 pieces, so you might have a couple left over.
  • Sweet Loren’s gluten-free puff pastry was my favorite. It was easy to handle, baked up flaky, and had a nice rise.

How to Make Gluten-Free Pigs in a Blanket Step by Step

Gluten-free pigs in a blanket ingredients

Gather the Ingredients: Gather all the ingredients together. Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a large cookie sheet with parchment paper.

Small bowl of whisked egg and water mixture for egg wash on a white marble surface.

Prep the egg wash: Prepare the egg wash by whisking together 1 egg and 1 tbsp of water in a small bowl until well blended. Set aside.

Sheet of gluten-free puff pastry rolled out and cut into 36 evenly sized rectangles, ready for wrapping.

Roll and cut the puff pastry: Roll out 1 sheet of gluten-free puff pastry (homemade or store-bought) into a 9×12-inch rectangle. Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, cut the dough into 36 rectangles by slicing it into 4 equal sections along the long side and 9 sections along the short side. Don’t worry if the pieces aren’t perfect.

Wrap the smokies: Take one of the 36 pieces of dough and roll it around 1 of the Lit’l Smokies from a 14-oz. gluten-free package (you may have a couple left over). Gently pinch the edge of the pastry to seal it. If needed, dab the edge with water or a bit of the egg wash to help it stick.

Egg wash and season: Place the rolled sausages seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet. Repeat with the remaining dough and sausages. Brush the tops of each wrapped sausage with the egg wash, then sprinkle about 2 tbsp of everything bagel seasoning evenly over all of them.

Gluten-Free Baking Tips

  • Gluten-free puff pastry varies a lot between brands in texture, hydration, and how well it puffs. Some may be drier or more delicate to work with than others. I’ve used homemade puff pastry as well as store-bought Sweet Loren’s. Both worked well, but store-bought is a great shortcut.
  • Gluten-free puff pastry typically doesn’t brown as much as traditional versions, even with an egg wash. Keep an eye on the texture rather than the color.

Serving Suggestions

These gluten-free pigs in a blanket are perfect served with a side of dairy-free ranch, honey mustard, or ketchup for dipping. I like to add them to a game day spread alongside gluten-free chicken wings, fresh veggies, and your favorite drinks. They disappear fast!

Storage Instructions

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, pop them in the oven or air fryer at 350°F for a few minutes until warmed through and crisp.

I love keeping a batch in the freezer for last-minute get-togethers. Freeze them after baking once they’ve cooled completely. Then, place in a freezer-safe bag or container for up to 2 months. Reheat straight from frozen, adding a few extra minutes to the bake time.
