    Hot Spinach Dip

Hot spinach dip is a must-have appetizer for any party or get-together. Don’t settle for a store-bought dip, because this creamy spinach dip has so much flavor from the spinach and the different cheeses that only making a homemade dip can bring. This hot spinach dip is so creamy, cheesy, and delicious.

Making this hot spinach dip recipe only takes a few simple ingredients, and it is also naturally gluten-free. This crowd-pleasing spinach dip is an amazing blend of creamy cheeses that is served warm straight from the oven. It’s guaranteed to be the talk of any party!

This creamy spinach dip is so easy to make and it can also be made the day before so that party prep will be less hassle. It’s the perfect combination of flavor and convenience, making it the ideal appetizer for any party! You can see just how easy this hot spinach dip is to make in the detailed step-by-step recipe photos.

    spinach dip recipe ingredients

    Ingredients In Spinach Dip

    • Sour Cream and Cream Cheese: These ingredients make the dip thick, creamy, and rich. For the best taste, use their full-fat versions.
    • Spinach: Spinach is both delicious and healthy, rich in vitamins and nutrients. If you only have frozen spinach on hand, it can be used as well, but make sure all of the liquid is drained before using it. One way of doing this is to thaw it in the microwave, then use paper towels to squeeze and wring it out until most of the moisture is gone.
    • Bacon: You can use your favorite brand of pre-cooked bacon pieces, but if you want to give this dip even more flavor you can cook up your own crispy bacon.
    • Onion and Garlic: This helps give the dip depth and enhance the savory flavors. The onion also adds a slight sweetness.
    • Salt and Pepper: These are essential for the dip to have a well-rounded flavor.
    • Cheddar and Mozzarella Cheese: These cheeses are the perfect combination: the cheddar adds a sharp tang while the mozzarella adds contrast with its mellow and smooth taste.
    • Fresh Parsley: Fresh parsley goes well with savory dishes. It gives the dip a bright freshness and pleasant aroma.

How To Make Hot Spinach Dip

    • Preheat the oven to 375ºF and grease an 8×8 baking dish.
    • Place the cream cheese and sour cream in a mixing bowl (photo 1) and use an electric mixer to whip until smooth (photo 2).
    • Add the remaining ingredients (keeping 1 cup of mozzarella aside) (photo 3) and use a spatula to mix it until everything is thoroughly combined (photo 4).
    • Transfer the mixture to the baking dish (photo 5) and sprinkle with the remaining mozzarella cheese (photo 6).
    • Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown on top.
    • Serve warm with freshly chopped parsley and your favorite gluten-free crackers or gluten-free chips.

Tips For Making The Best Spinach Dip

    • Experiment with a different combination of cheeses: Parmesan, Monterrey, Asiago, or even Pepper Jack would work!
    • If using frozen spinach in the recipe, make sure all of the water is removed from your spinach by using paper towels to squeeze and wring it out until most of the moisture is gone.
    • To make a lighter version of the dip you can use low-fat cream cheese and sour cream.
    • There are many different ways you can eat this dip: you can eat it with gluten-free bread, gluten-free tortilla chips, gluten-free crackers, or even fresh veggies!
    • You can keep this hot spinach dip warm by adding it to a slow cooker on warm. Make sure to stir it occasionally.

    Spinach Dip Variations

This is the classic recipe for hot spinach dip, but there are other ingredients you can add to the dip to customize the flavor.

    • Artichokes: Spinach and artichoke is a very popular flavor combination. Just add a ½ cup of chopped marinated artichoke hearts.
    • Sun-dried tomatoes: Adding these would take the spinach dip to the next level of flavor. Just Add ¼-1/2 cup of chopped oil-packed sun-dried tomatoes.
    • Mushrooms: These complement the spinach and cheese flavors without being overpowering. Just add ½ cup of chopped cooked mushrooms.
    • Jalapeños, hot sauce, or red pepper flakes: Add any one of these to give your dip a little kick.

Can I Make Spinach Dip Ahead Of Time?

This cheesy spinach dip is easily made ahead of time. On the day before you want to serve the dip, assemble all of the ingredients in the baking dish, wrap it tightly with foil or plastic wrap, then refrigerate.

When you’re ready to serve the spinach dip, pop it in the oven and bake as directed. The refrigerated cold spinach dip may need an extra 5-10 minutes in the oven, so keep an eye on it while it’s baking and adjust accordingly.

    How to Store Spinach Dip?

To Store:  Place the spinach dip in an airtight container or wrap the baking dish tightly in plastic wrap and refrigerate. It can be refrigerated for up to 4 days. This spinach dip is great to eat as a leftover because it can be eaten either hot or cold. It tastes delicious both ways!

To Reheat: This dip can be reheated in several ways. Add the dip to a greased baking dish and reheat it in a 350° oven until it is nice and bubbly. The dip can also be reheated in the microwave, on the stovetop, or in a slow cooker on a low or warm setting. This dip is also easily reheated in a slow cooker on a low or warm setting.

    Can I Freeze Spinach Dip?

I do not recommend freezing the spinach dip due to the sour cream. It might get a bit lumpy and watery when thawing.
