Jersey Mike’s is one of the best major fast food chains to eat at if you want to avoid wheat and gluten. The sandwich shop has a gluten free bread option that’s baked offsite and individually wrapped to lower the risk of it being contaminated by other ingredients. Plus, most of the sandwich fillings are also gluten free, so only a handful of menu options are off the table for people who don’t eat gluten.
Even though Jersey Mike’s has many options that are technically gluten free, like all the other fast food chains I’ve researched—there’s still a risk that accidental gluten contamination can occur in the shared kitchen and prep area. If you ask, Jersey Mike’s staff will use a dedicated knife, fresh gloves, and can put down a paper barrier on the counter while preparing your food. However, if you have Celiacs or are very sensitive to gluten, it is always a good idea to talk with your doctor about what level of precaution is right for you.

Top Gluten Free Sandwiches At Jersey Mike’s
Jersey Mike’s gluten free bread is made by Udi’s Gluten Free, a brand that specializes in only gluten free products. You can get the gluten free bread for both Regular and Giant sized sandwiches. I’ve found it’s easy to order the gluten free bread in person, online, and via Seamless.
Here are the sandwiches at Jersey Mike’s that you can order with gluten-free bread:
- #1 BLT

You also have the option to order sandwiches as a bowl, which comes without any bread at all. In my opinion, some of the sandwiches—like the Super Sub which has several meats, cheese, onions, and lettuce—are pretty great as bowls. The meat and cheese comes cut up on a bed of lettuce, and the dish has a sort of antipasto salad vibe that’s well-suited to the red wine and olive oil blend that dresses the sandwich. My husband, who eats wheat, enjoyed the Turkey and Provolone as a bowl (we added extra pickles—highly recommend).
Gluten Free Sides And Desserts Jersey Mike’s
- Tossed Salad
- Grilled Chicken Salad
- Hot Chopped Pepper Relish
- Udi’s GF Snickerdoodle
Additionally, Jersey Mike’s also has a pretty wide selection of packaged chips that do not contain gluten ingredients, including Lay’s Classic potato chips, several Miss Vickie’s flavors, Cheetos, and Doritos. My son loves Miss Vickie’s Salt & Vinegar flavor, and my personal favorite is the Udi’s Snickerdoodle.
Jersey Mike’s Official Allergen Statement
I like that Jersey Mike’s website has a user-friendly nutrition and allergen information page on its website. It lets you select the menu item you’re considering ordering, and then displays all of the nutrition information and ingredients in one place, with an easy-to-read table.
The website does include this disclaimer:
While a particular product may not contain a particular allergen, it may be prepared on the same equipment and in the same kitchen area as products that do contain that allergen. Cross-contact with allergens is possible and neither we nor our franchisees nor any employees assume responsibility for sensitivity or allergy to any food item.
When I ordered a gluten-free option via the site, I also got a shorter version of this disclaimer.
What To Avoid
Jersey Mike’s standard bread options are White, Rosemary Parmesan, Wheat and Seeded Italian—all of which contain gluten. You’ll also want to skip the following menu items at Jersey Mike’s, because they use wheat at an ingredient:
- Wraps
- Breakfast Sandwiches
- Brownie
- Tastykakes
- French Fries
- David’s Cookies (sugar, oatmeal raisin, M&M and chocolate chip flavors)
- Chocolate Chunk Cookie
- Sun Chips
The gluten free bread does not appear to be available in the mini and kid’s size sandwiches on Jersey Mike’s website, but I haven’t actually tried to order these items.

most teriyaki sauces have gluten in them due to soy sauce. you can get teriyaki and soy sauce gluten free but Jersey Mikes uses gluten containing version.
Sadly the gluten free bread they have is not very good. It’s dry and stiff. firehouse subs seems to have a better gluten free roll. I wish there was a gluten free bread that compared to bread with gluten but I have not found one.
Thanks so much for doing the restaurant guides. Keep it up please!!!
