Gluten-Free Baked Brie Recipe

I love hosting parties and get-togethers over the festive season. And this homemade gluten-free baked brie is always on the menu. Also known as gluten-free baked brie en croûte, it’s easy to make, tastes amazing, and is perfect for sharing with friends and family. I spread sweet fig jam on top of the brie before wrapping it in a layer of gluten-free puff pastry and baking until golden brown. It’s warm, melty, and just the right amount of sweet—the perfect appetizer to start any meal.

Just like our gluten-free buffalo chicken dip or our gluten-free crab cakes, this recipe will quickly become a party favorite thanks to its delicious flavor and texture. You can see how easy it is to make in my detailed recipe step photos below!

Ingredients

  • Gluten-Free Puff Pastry: Make sure to thaw the sheets completely before using or they’ll be prone to cracking.
  • Brie: A soft cow’s milk cheese from France with a buttery flavor and creamy texture. Great for eating by itself or for baking.
  • Fig Jam: Adds sweetness and a burst of fruit flavor.
  • Egg: Gives the pastry a beautiful golden-brown color.

Tips and Suggestions

  • Cut the rind off the Brie cheese wheel before wrapping it in the puff pastry if you’re not a fan of the rind.
  • Customize the flavor and use your favorite spreads! Cranberry jam or apple jelly would be great for the holiday season. Berry or stone fruit jams would be delicious in the summer months.
  • If the gluten-free puff pastry starts to crack, you can simply patch it up by wetting it with some water and pressing the dough together.
  • Make sure that you pinch the pastry sheet well to seal it so none of the cheese or jam leaks out as it bakes.

Can You Eat the Rind on Brie?

Yes! Brie rind is edible, which is why it’s left on in this recipe. However, if you don’t like the texture, remove it before baking.

Why Is My Gluten-Free Baked Brie Rubbery?

Brie becomes rubbery and starts to harden if it is overbaked. Pay attention to the cooking time on this recipe and there shouldn’t be any issues! Once the pastry has turned golden brown and puffed up, it’s ready to be served.

Serving Suggestions

My go-to way to serve gluten-free baked brie is on a charcuterie board with some crackers (gluten-free Ritz crackers are one of my favorites), fresh fruit like apples and grapes, and some toasted nuts. For dipping, you can also serve it with gluten-free baguette slices, gluten-free focaccia, or gluten-free flatbread. A selection of cured meats, such as prosciutto or salami, would also be delicious additions.

    1. Hi Jeanette! Gluten free puff pastry can be hard to find. Schar seems to be the most widely available brand, so I would see if they sell their products in Canada. If not, you could always make your own gluten free puff pastry. It can be a bit tedious, but tends to produce better results.
